Think about Breath

It’s important to think about breath. Not only do we need control of our breath to play the irish whistle well, we need to breathe every day to survive. Breath is special. We must breathe to live. Only with breath, is life possible, is speaking to others possible, and music is only possible with breath. How would a guitar sound without a person’s voice? What possible enjoyment is there in randomly created music by electronics? Even so, it took people with breath to make the programs to mimic what people can do with breath control without computers.

When we use discipline with our breath and our posture, we can create music that can be enjoyed by most. There is even music in braille for those that are blind, so that they also can do the same as anyone else.

There is a story in the Bible that shows how special breath must be. God had created everything: light, land, plants according to their kinds, angels, sun, moon, stars, planets, sea creatures according to their kinds, land creatures according to their kinds, and even a man in God’s image. Yet, after all this, the man wasn’t alive, therefore God breathed into the man’s nostrils the breath of life. (Genesis 1, Genesis 2:7)

Breath is special. Let’s think about it. Let’s think about practicing, think about good posture, and think about breathing just right for our notes.

Nehemiah 4:20 ‘In the place where you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.’
